Portable Valve Actuators and Drivers

Portable valve drivers and actuators are a range of power tools specially designed to take the hard work out of turning difficult valves.

Valtorx offers a wide range of actuators including electric, petrol motor and pneumatic options to open a wide range of valve types.

For valves that have become stiff to turn or with a high number of wheel rotations from opened to closed, a Portable Valve Actuator is the best solution.

Introduction to PVA

Portable Valve Actuators are an invaluable tool when it comes to manual valve operation. As the tool is portable, it can move from valve to valve in quick succession, speeding up productivity and taking the physical strain out of the process.

Valtorx offers a thorough range of Portable Valve Actuators meaning we can recommend and supply the right actuator to operate most valve types with power options. With this range, we can also be sure that our supplied tool will provide safety for any industry and environment.

As experts in this field we can help guide you to the right actuator for your situation.  All you need to know is the following:

  • Type of valve to be turned (e.g. gate valve, sluice gate, ball valve etc)
  • Type of valve wheel (e.g. diameter, flat, tapered)
  • Preferred power option (e.g. gasoline motor, electric, pneumatic)

Once you’ve collected this information, Valtorx will be able to recommend the perfect actuator and attachments for you.

Our Expertise

Valtorx have combined experience of over 50 years designing and supplying portable valve actuator systems to our customers and clients. In that time we have become familiar with every type, shape, size and configuration of valve, penstock, sluice gate, gearbox and fixed actuator.

For customers with any kind of manual rotational difficulty, we are confident we can find a solution to make your task easier and speed up operation of any valve exercising task. We simplify integration and deployment of the portable valve actuator meaning customer staff can quickly get to work turning valves.

Our customers include power stations, oil & gas facilities, paper processing plants, municipal water ways, canals, water treatment facilities and many more.

Regardless of your application, Valtorxt can provide a qualified proposal, and deliver an excellent product and customer experience.

Environment

The environment in which the portable valve actuator will be used will help determine which power option is chosen. Here are some points to consider.

An indoor environment will rule out the use of the gasoline motor device as exhaust fumes are emitted from the motor. A pneumatic or electric device is more suitable for this environment. Gasoline spillage during re-fuelling can also be an environmental risk, whereas there is no such risk with the electric or pneumatic device.

Ex rated hazardous zones with flammable gases present will rule out the use of the electric motor device. Implementation of hotwork permits may help navigate this risk. The pneumatic portable valve actuator is ideal for hazardous zones.

If choosing the pneumatic portable valve actuator, be aware that it has high consumption of air-flow. As well as high pressure (60 – 100psi), high air volume is also necessary (40 – 80 cfm).

Safety

Operators can safeguard themselves against any personal injury risks by carefully following the manufacturer’s user instructions. Remembering all good manual handling practices will ensure no injury is sustained when using the heavier models.

Once connected to the valve, a torque management system is essential to protect the worker against the risk of counter-torque. This is where the actuator is inclined to rotate in the opposite direction when it encounters increased turning effort.

The torque management system can take several forms, depending on the type of valve being operated. Instructions will be found within the user instructions. In its simplest form, the torque management system is a bar fitted to the collar of the actuator near the output shaft. The opposite end of the bar can be lashed to a fixed structure close by the valve using the lanyard and carabiner.

Portable Valve Actuators eliminate the physical strain caused by difficult to turn valves and offer a much safe solution.

Interlocks

Trapped Key Interlocks control safety-critical procedures using mechanical locking devices and keys. Interlocks from Valtorx have a wide range of applications and lock types to cover access doors, valves, power switches and more. Interlock systems ensure workers complete operations in a set sequence reducing the risk of accidental or unauthorised operation of equipment or processes.
